Do the flight hours for helicopter pilots transfer to Airline Transportation Pilot ?
Yes, You must have a total of 1500 hours of total flight time as a pilot. Within this total, specific requirements include:
*500 hours of cross-country flight, and at least 200 may be in a helicopter
*100 hours of night flight, and at least 15 hours in helicopters with 10 night take offs and landings
*250 hours of Pilot In Command, 100 of which must be in powered aircraft, and of which 50 can be I’m helicopters
Additionally 75 hours of instrument flight time ( in actual or simulated conditions ) are required.
What pre-requisites do you need to transition from a helicopter to multi-engine ?
1. Private Pilot Certificate :
( Rotorcraft Helicopter )
You must hold at least a private pilot certificate with a rating for rotorcraft -helicopter.2. Instrument Rating:
Proficiency in flying under instrument flight rules ( IFR )3. Multi Engine Rating:
Both flight training for approximately 15 hours and ground school training demonstrating proficiency in multi-engine aerodynamics systems, performance, and emergency procedures.4. Medical Certification:
A second class medical certification is required to pursue commercial operations.
What are the requirements to qualify for an Airline Transportation Pilot
( ATP ) certificate and class rating. Main points of 14 CFR 61.159 ?
Experience Requirements :
1. Total Time: 1500 hours
2. Cross Country Time: 500 hours
3. Night Flight Time: 100 hours
4.Instrument Flight Time: 75 hours
5.Pilot in Command: 250 hours
6. Multi Engine: 50 hours
Can military helicopter pilots apply for Airline Transportation Pilot ?
Military pilots may qualify for Restricted ATP certificate, which may allow for reduced flight time. Please refer to 14. CFR 61.160.
What aircraft are used for training ?
We recommend using our
-Cessna 172 N Dual G5s Garmin 530 W and autopilot
-Aztec PA-23-250 Dual G5s Garmin 750You may also use your own aircraft if you can provide logbooks to prove:
* current annual and IFR status
* that all AD’s have been complied with
* pilot static and transponder certification within preceding 24 calendar months
* flight instructor added as a named pilot on your insurance policyPlease be aware that caertain aircraft, because of their complexity, require additional time to become confident in real world IFR conditions.
When are checkrides conducted ?
Checkrides are conducted on Tuesday and Thursday.
Checkride consists of 2 hr oral examination and 2 hr air examination.
Check rides are conducted at JWN.
